Bulk Beta-Alanine Powder for Supplement Manufacturing
Beta-alanine is a white crystalline amino acid powder made by chemical synthesis or by enzyme based conversion, with the chemical name 3-aminopropanoic acid (CAS 107-95-9). It is a different compound from L-alanine and from carnosine. We supply it in bulk to supplement brands, contract manufacturers, and formulators. You can request testing documents and samples on the quote form.
A simple amino acid with a clear identity
Beta-alanine is easy to specify. It is one small molecule with a CAS number, no salt partner, and standard tests for identity and purity. That makes lot to lot comparison simple for buyers and quality teams.
One named compound
Beta-alanine has the formula C3H7NO2 and a molecular weight of 89.09. It is sold without a salt partner, so a 99% assay means about 99% of the powder is beta-alanine.
No L or D form
The molecule has no chiral center, so there is no optical rotation test and no L or D version. A label that says 'L-beta-alanine' has a naming error.
Easy to tell apart
L-alanine (CAS 56-41-7) is the alpha form, a different compound. Carnosine (CAS 305-84-0) is a dipeptide made of beta-alanine and L-histidine, and it is sold as a separate ingredient.
White powder that dissolves in water
Good lots are white to off white crystals or powder. Beta-alanine dissolves readily in water, which suits unflavored powders and drink mixes.
Two production routes
Chemical synthesis is the established route. Enzyme based routes that start from L-aspartate are also in use, so ask which one made your lot.
Branded and unbranded supply
Some beta-alanine is sold under registered brand names that only licensed material may carry. Unbranded beta-alanine is the same compound sold under its chemical name.
Where formulators use beta-alanine powder
Beta-alanine fits measured formats where fill weight and serving size are controlled, including:
- Single ingredient powders
- Sports nutrition powders
- Powdered drink mixes
- Stick packs and sachets
- Multiple ingredient powder blends
- Capsules
- Compressed tablets
- Private label programs
Beta-alanine is usually measured in grams per serving, so powders and drink mixes are the common formats. Check your fill weight against capsule size before you commit to a capsule program, and plan each batch from the confirmed assay on the COA.
What to check before you buy beta-alanine
Powders sold as beta-alanine can differ in production route, assay method, impurity limits, and brand rights. Review these points together, and ask for lot documents before you approve a supplier.
Name and CAS on every document
Confirm that the specification and certificate of analysis (COA) both name beta-alanine, CAS 107-95-9. L-alanine and DL-alanine are different materials with similar names.
Assay method
Many specs measure assay by titration, which counts acid and base groups. Ask for an HPLC purity result as well, because it separates beta-alanine from similar compounds.
Production route and byproducts
Ask whether the lot was made by chemical synthesis or by an enzyme route. Then ask for the related substances result by HPLC, since each route leaves its own byproducts.
Brand and label rights
If your label will use a branded beta-alanine name, you need licensed material from the brand owner. Unbranded beta-alanine should be labeled by its chemical name only.
Per element metals
Older specs give one 'heavy metals as Pb' figure. Ask for lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury results by ICP-MS and compare each with your finished product specification.
Maker and origin
Ask for the manufacturer's name and country on the COA. Material repacked by a distributor should still trace back to the maker's original lot number.
Label math: A 3 g serving at a 99.0% assay holds about 2.97 g of beta-alanine. Base label figures on each lot's measured assay and your own finished product testing, since the stated grade is only a minimum.
Typical specification for beta-alanine
These values reflect published food grade specifications. Final figures come from the specification sheet and COA for your lot. NLT means not less than, and NMT means not more than.

Storage and handling for bulk beta-alanine
Amino acid powders stay in good condition when they are sealed, dry, and at room temperature. These steps keep the powder in good condition between production runs.
Keep it sealed
Close the inner liner after each use and press out the air. An open bag can pick up moisture in a humid room and start to clump.
Store cool and dry
Keep bags off the floor in a dry room, away from heat and direct sunlight. Follow the temperature range on the spec sheet.
Use clean, dry tools
Scoop with dry utensils and keep liquids away from the open bag. Damp spots turn into hard lumps that slow blending.
Rotate stock
Record the lot number and retest date for each bag. Send older lots to production first.
Beta-alanine buyer FAQ
Quick answers to the questions procurement and quality teams ask most.
Is beta-alanine the same as L-alanine?
No. L-alanine (CAS 56-41-7) is the alpha form, with the amino group on a different carbon. Beta-alanine (CAS 107-95-9) is a separate compound, so check that the CAS number on the COA matches.
Is unbranded beta-alanine the same as branded beta-alanine?
It is the same compound, 3-aminopropanoic acid. Only licensed material may carry a registered brand name, so unbranded lots are labeled by the chemical name.
Is beta-alanine the same as carnosine?
No. Carnosine is a dipeptide built from beta-alanine and L-histidine (CAS 305-84-0). It is a separate ingredient with its own specification.
How is beta-alanine made?
Beta-alanine is made by chemical synthesis, the established route, or by enzyme based routes that start from L-aspartate. Ask your supplier to name the route and to report related substances by HPLC.
Does beta-alanine dissolve in water?
Yes. Beta-alanine dissolves readily in water. Run your own trial at your target concentration and flavor system before you finalize a drink mix.
What documents can I get with an order?
