Bulk Aloe Vera Inner Leaf Powder for Supplement Manufacturing

Aloe vera inner leaf powder is a dry powder made from the clear inner leaf gel of Aloe barbadensis Miller, also listed as Aloe vera. The green rind and the yellow latex layer are removed first. The powder is usually sold at 200:1, meaning one part powder rehydrates to the solids of 200 parts single strength gel. We supply it in bulk to supplement brands, contract manufacturers, and formulators.

Botanical name Aloe barbadensis Miller
Plant part Inner leaf gel (fillet)
Concentration 200:1, freeze dried
Pack sizes 5 lb, 11 lb, 25 lb, and 55 lb
Why Aloe Vera Inner Leaf Powder

A water soluble leaf gel powder with clear test markers

Inner leaf powder concentrates aloe gel solids into a dry, shippable form. It has named markers for identity and content, and an industry limit for aloin. Your quality team can check each lot against simple numbers.

Inner gel, not latex

The leaf has three layers: green rind, a thin yellow latex layer, and the clear inner gel. Inner leaf powder uses only the gel. Aloin sits mainly in the latex layer.

A concentration you can rehydrate

A 200:1 powder mixed at 1 part powder to 199 parts water returns to single strength gel solids. A 100:1 grade is also sold for buyers who want a lighter ratio.

Measurable composition

Acemannan, malic acid, and free sugars are the markers labs use to confirm aloe gel solids. One published spec lists malic acid at 38.5% and acemannan at 11.4%.

Freeze dried or spray dried

Gel is pasteurized and concentrated, then freeze dried or spray dried to a powder. Some powders are carrier free, while others include a carrier, so the label should say which.

Dissolves in cold water

The off white to beige powder dissolves easily in cold water without forming a gel. Rehydrated solutions run at about pH 3.5 to 5.0.

An industry certification program

The International Aloe Science Council (IASC) runs a program that tests aloe materials for content and aloin. Ask whether the lot you buy is covered. IASC certification may be available depending on the lot, so please confirm with us before you order.

Formulation Uses

Where formulators use aloe vera inner leaf powder

This powder fits measured formats and water based products, including:

  • Capsules
  • Compressed tablets
  • Powdered drink mixes
  • Functional beverages, after rehydration and stability trials
  • Single ingredient powders
  • Stick packs and sachets
  • Gummies, after stability trials
  • Private label programs

Plan fill weights from the confirmed ratio and acemannan figure on each COA. A 200:1 and a 100:1 powder are not interchangeable gram for gram, so recalculate your formula whenever you change grades.

What Commercial Buyers Should Review

What to check before you buy aloe vera powder

Two powders sold as aloe vera can come from different parts of the leaf and carry very different aloin levels. Review these points together, and ask for lot documents before you approve a supplier.

Leaf fraction

Confirm inner leaf gel, decolorized whole leaf, or whole leaf that is not decolorized on the spec and COA. California lists whole leaf aloe vera extract that is not decolorized under Proposition 65, so the leaf fraction affects your label.

Aloin A and B by HPLC

Ask for aloin A plus B measured by HPLC on each lot. IASC certified material carries a 10 ppm maximum, and EU buyers work to 1 ppm in the finished product.

Acemannan by qNMR

Ask for acemannan measured by quantitative NMR (qNMR). A common benchmark for powders is at least 5% acemannan by dry weight, and the same test shows malic acid and free sugars.

Ratio and carrier

Ask how the ratio is calculated and whether a carrier, such as maltodextrin, is included. A carrier changes the acemannan per gram and the label math.

Processing and micro

Confirm pasteurization, the drying method, and microbial limits by USP methods. Add heavy metals by ICP-MS to the lot panel.

Grade and documents

Some aloe powders on the market are sold as cosmetic grade under INCI names. For supplements, ask for a food grade specification, allergen statement, and COA.

Gel equivalent math: If your label states a gel equivalent, base it on the confirmed ratio. One gram of 200:1 powder equals 200 grams of single strength gel only when the lot meets that ratio.

Typical specification for aloe vera inner leaf powder

These values reflect a common 200:1 inner leaf grade. Final figures come from the specification sheet and COA for your lot. NLT means not less than, and NMT means not more than.

Storage & Handling

Storage and handling for bulk aloe vera powder

Aloe gel solids are mostly sugars and malic acid, so the powder picks up moisture quickly. These steps keep the powder in good condition between production runs.

Keep it sealed with desiccant

Close the inner liner right after use, press out the air, and keep the desiccant pack in the bag. Open bags in a dry room to keep the powder from caking.

Store cool and dry

Keep bags off the floor in a cool, dry room, away from heat sources. Follow the temperature range on the spec sheet.

Keep away from light

Leave the powder in its original opaque packaging. Light and heat can darken the color over time.

Rehydrate only what you need

Once mixed with water, aloe becomes a perishable liquid. Handle rehydrated batches as finished liquids with their own micro controls.

Buyer FAQ

Aloe vera inner leaf powder buyer FAQ

Quick answers to the questions procurement and quality teams ask most.

What does 200:1 mean for aloe vera powder?

It means one part powder rehydrates to the solids of 200 parts single strength aloe gel. In practice you mix 1 part powder with 199 parts water. The ratio refers to gel, not whole leaves, so ask how your supplier calculates it.

What is the difference between inner leaf and whole leaf aloe powder?

Inner leaf powder uses only the clear gel. Whole leaf powder starts from the entire leaf, and decolorized whole leaf is filtered, usually through activated carbon, to strip out aloin. Whole leaf that is not decolorized keeps the latex compounds and is the form California lists under Proposition 65.

What aloin level should I specify?

Specify aloin A plus B by HPLC, with a maximum of 10 ppm to match the IASC limit. If you sell into the EU, work to 1 ppm in the finished product. Ask for a lot result as well as the spec limit.

How is aloe identity and content checked?

Quantitative NMR measures acemannan, malic acid, and free sugars, which together confirm real aloe gel solids. HPLC measures aloin A and B. Ask for both on the COA.

Is a carrier added to aloe vera powder?

Sometimes. Some powders are carrier free, and others add a carrier such as maltodextrin during spray drying. A carrier changes acemannan per gram, so check the spec before you compare prices.

Can aloe vera powder be sold in the EU?

Only if it does not count as containing hydroxyanthracene derivatives. Regulation (EU) 2021/468 prohibits aloe leaf preparations containing them in foods, and EU practice counts more than 1 ppm total aloin in the product as containing them. Inner leaf or decolorized material with a low aloin result is the usual route.

What documents can I get with an order?

A certificate of analysis (COA) and a specification sheet ship with every order. An allergen statement and a safety data sheet may also be available, depending on the lot in inventory. Contact us to request them.

Can I get a sample before a bulk order?

You can request one by choosing sample options on the quote form. We will confirm availability, size, and timing.
