Bulk Apple Cider Vinegar Powder for Supplement and Food Manufacturing

Apple cider vinegar powder is a dry powder made from apple cider vinegar spray dried onto a carrier, most often maltodextrin. The vinegar comes from apple juice fermented first to alcohol and then to acetic acid. Bulk grades are sold by their acetic acid content, measured by HPLC or titration. We supply it to supplement brands, contract manufacturers, food makers, and formulators.

Source Apple cider vinegar from fermented apple juice
Typical grade 5% acetic acid (HPLC)
Carrier Maltodextrin
Pack sizes 5 lb, 11 lb, 25 lb, and 55 lb
Why Apple Cider Vinegar Powder

A dry form of cider vinegar for powder and capsule lines

Liquid vinegar cannot go into a capsule or a dry blend. The powder can, and it carries a stated acetic acid content that you can check on every COA. That makes it easy to specify and to compare between suppliers.

Defined source

FDA's Compliance Policy Guide defines cider vinegar as the product of alcoholic and then acetous fermentation of apple juice. Your specification can name that source, so the powder traces back to real cider vinegar.

Acetic acid as the marker

Acetic acid is the main acid in vinegar and the figure most specifications state. Bulk grades run from about 4% to 10% acetic acid in the finished powder.

A carrier you can name

Vinegar is mostly water and acid, so it needs a carrier to dry into a powder. Maltodextrin is the usual choice, and it belongs in your ingredient statement next to the vinegar.

Fine, water soluble powder

Most spec sheets call for a white to light cream powder that passes a 60 mesh screen. It dissolves in water, which suits drink mixes and stick packs.

Tart, sour flavor

The powder tastes tart and smells of vinegar. Plan flavor and sweetener trials when you use it in drink mixes or gummies.

Short, numeric spec sheets

Specifications for this ingredient list acetic acid, moisture, mesh, pH, metals, and microbial limits as plain numbers. That makes supplier comparison quick for your quality team.

Formulation Uses

Where formulators use apple cider vinegar powder

The powder fits dry formats where weight and acid content are controlled, including:

  • Capsules
  • Compressed tablets, after flow and hardness trials
  • Gummies, after taste and set trials
  • Powdered drink mixes
  • Stick packs and sachets
  • Multiple ingredient powder blends
  • Seasoning blends and dry rubs
  • Dressing and sauce mixes
  • Private label programs

Plan fill weights from the measured acetic acid on each COA. A 5% powder and a 10% powder are not interchangeable gram for gram, so recalculate your serving math whenever you change grades or suppliers.

What Commercial Buyers Should Review

What to check before you buy apple cider vinegar powder

Powders sold under this name can differ in source vinegar, carrier, acid content, and test method. Review these points together, and ask for lot documents before you approve a supplier.

Source vinegar

Confirm that the vinegar was made by fermenting apple juice, as FDA's Compliance Policy Guide 525.825 defines cider vinegar. Ask whether it was filtered or unfiltered before drying.

Acetic acid by HPLC

Titration measures total acid, so it counts every acid in the sample. HPLC measures acetic acid on its own and also shows the malic acid that comes from apples. Ask which method the COA uses.

Carrier and ratio

Ask for the carrier's name, its percentage, and its starch source, such as corn or tapioca. The carrier sets how much vinegar is in each gram, and its source belongs in your allergen file.

Authenticity testing

Carbon isotope testing under EN 16466-2 and radiocarbon testing can show whether the acetic acid came from fermented fruit. Ask whether your supplier runs either test, and how often.

Moisture and caking

The powder picks up moisture from the air. Check the loss on drying limit, the liner type, and whether a flow agent is added.

Contaminant limits

Check heavy metals by ICP-MS, microbial limits by USP methods, and pesticide residues on the apple source. Compare each limit with your own finished product specification.

Label math: If your label lists acetic acid per serving, base the number on the HPLC result for each lot. A 500 mg serving of a 5% powder holds 25 mg of acetic acid, and the same weight of a 10% powder holds 50 mg.

Specification

Typical specification for apple cider vinegar powder

These values reflect common spray dried grades on a maltodextrin carrier. Final figures come from the specification sheet and COA for your lot. NLT means not less than, and NMT means not more than.

Storage & Handling

Storage and handling for bulk apple cider vinegar powder

Vinegar powders pick up moisture quickly and can cake once a bag is open. These steps keep the powder in good condition between production runs.

Keep it sealed

Close the inner liner after each use and press out the air. A tight seal keeps humid air away from the powder.

Store cool and dry

Keep bags off the floor in a dry room, away from heat sources. Follow the temperature and humidity range on the spec sheet.

Use dry tools

Scoop with clean, dry tools and keep open bags away from wash areas. A little water can start clumps in an open bag.

Rotate stock

Record the lot number and retest date for each bag. Send older lots to production first.

Buyer FAQ

Apple cider vinegar powder buyer FAQ

Quick answers to the questions procurement and quality teams ask most.

How much acetic acid is in apple cider vinegar powder?

Most bulk grades state about 4% to 10% acetic acid in the finished powder. The figure depends on the source vinegar, the drying step, and the carrier ratio.

Is apple cider vinegar powder the same as liquid apple cider vinegar?

No, the two are not equal gram for gram. FDA policy expects liquid cider vinegar to carry at least 4 g of acetic acid per 100 mL. A powder's content depends on its grade and carrier, so convert using the acetic acid figure on the COA.

What is the carrier in apple cider vinegar powder?

Maltodextrin is the most common carrier, and some food grades also use modified food starch. List the carrier in your ingredient statement, for example 'apple cider vinegar powder (maltodextrin, apple cider vinegar)'.

Why do titration and HPLC give different acetic acid results?

Titration measures all the acid in a sample, while HPLC separates acetic acid from other acids such as malic acid. If a powder contains other acids, titration reads higher. Ask for HPLC when your label states acetic acid.

Does apple cider vinegar powder contain the mother?

That depends on whether the vinegar was filtered before drying, and suppliers differ. Ask for filtered or unfiltered to be stated on the specification sheet.

What documents can I get with an order?

A certificate of analysis (COA) and a specification sheet ship with every order. An allergen statement and a safety data sheet may also be available, depending on the lot in inventory. Contact us to request them.

Can I get a sample before a bulk order?

You can request one by choosing sample options on the quote form. We will confirm availability, size, and timing.

How should I store an opened bag?

Close the liner, press out the air, and keep the bag in a cool, dry place. The powder picks up moisture quickly, so reseal it right after each use.
